Hi Everyone,
As you may know, there is a referendum on the upcoming election which would allow to keep all automated ballots to remain fully private.
Not even I, the Secretary of State, would have to look at them, much less the Electoral Commission.
That means that private automated votes would go from having 4 people review them down to ZERO review,
But, for this to occur, the Electoral commission must approve the code in a public vote.
I already posted the code on Wittenberg, with comments and details.
I already asked the King to name an electoral Commission so they may vote on the code, so that if the amendment is passed, we will have the option for truly secret ballots.
But the King has yet to name an Electoral commission (yes, I reminded him).
So, what do we do? We wait yet another election cycle because the King didn't name an EC in time?
We only have 6 days before the election...

Should his Majesty continuously refuse or delay to do his job, then maybe his Majesty should abdicate.

Really looking forward to the RUMP and other hard-line monarchists trying to explain this one away. The King's disinterest in Talossa - except when his own interests are at stake - is coming close to causing constitutional crises even worse than the one over OrgLaw amendments.
Deliberate sabotage or negligence? Doesn't matter. He's not doing his job.

In northern Ireland, all attempts at peaceful settlements to the low-level civil war which raged for 30 years were stymied by boycotts by one side or another. The institutions currently in place there since 1998 have survived only because they were made "boycott-proof" - that is, they could keep going even if one side took their ball and went home.
Our OrgLaw must be made "nonfeasance-proof". We want the King and the Uppermost Cort to be held responsible for not doing their jobs, or for actually breaking the law by not doing something which was legislatively mandated. Again, it doesn't matter whether this is due to negligence, due to unforeseen circumstances like ending up in a coma for 3 months, or due to deliberate sabotage via silent boycott. We must move to a system where nothing can grind to a halt because someone doesn't do their job.
Of course, some shades of opinion want the system to be able to be brought to a halt due to some Curmudgeon or other throwing a sulk. This is not proper, though.

Not really a whole lot of reasons not to do this that I can see, and I'll be interested to see what His Majesty has to say about this. I hope we don't have to go through the same thing as last time because His Majesty never bothered to select someone. Thanks for staying on top of this, MPF.

I really don't see what the huge problem is. Precertification of the voting system is not the law yet, it's merely a proposed amendment. Just run the election under current law, and the new system will be used for the next election if the amendment becomes part of the OrgLaw. Problem solved.

The King HAS actually been working to appoint a Commission. I am not sure if he has finalized it yet, however

Well, issue sorted now; but really it shouldn't take calling the King out publicly to get him to do his job.

Well, issue sorted now; but really it shouldn't take calling the King out publicly to get him to do his job. Fact is, it didn't. As Txec noted, he was already working on it. M-P posting his thread just before the King announced the commission appointments was just coincidence.

This election probably should be run under current law since we haven't actually approved the new system by referendum yet.

Well, issue sorted now; but really it shouldn't take calling the King out publicly to get him to do his job. In fairness to the king, he asked the advice of the UC Justices a couple weeks ago on whom he should appoint and notified us at that time who he was going to choose.

Hehe. Glad this turned out to neither be an emergency or something undone.
