Wittenberg is a cool name for our forum... but the Wiki doesn't say, for example, why this name is used to design our forum, what are Wittenberg X, XI and XII, and so on.
So, could anyone please explain me the reason of this name, and what is this X - XI - XII stuff? It will also fill the Wiki page with some important informations.

The very first Talossan Wittenberg (which, IIRC, was started by Charles Sauls in 1997) got that name as an appropriate place for people to post things (like Martin Luther posted his theses to the doors of Wittenberg Cathedral). Each time the host has changed, the number has been incremented. (There's more detail somewhere, I'm sure, but that's off the top of my head.)

That's correct, except I think it was Ryan Hughes and not Charles who launched the first Witt. Gjermund?

Oh, yes, appropriate. So the first was X, right? If XII was the forum of the Republic, I assume this is XI or XIII.

The first was Witt I (although of course no one referred to it by a number at the time). Some incarnations of Witt lasted only a very short time before being replaced. Witt X was the one in service at the time of the split (I think it went into service in early '03) and became the forum of the Republic from 1 June '04. Then this forum, Witt XII, was created as the new forum of the Kingdom. When the Republic later moved to a different forum, it was referred to as Witt XIIb.

Witt X was all mine: I created it and ran it until the split.
I still have all of the data.
There was also a previous version of my script, but I cannot remember if it was Witt X also or Witt IX. That version was file based and crashed, making us lose all of our messages when the file became corrupted.
I worked non-stop and migrated everything to a database, which was Witt X. It was inaugurated on February 20th, 2003, and ran on it's original server (for which I still have the DB) until November 08, 2004.
I have all of the message between those 2 dates.
I no longer have Witt X after November 04 2004, but that was Witt in the Republic time, so it is possible that I was no longer hosting Witt at that point.

I have Witt X from October 2004 till the day when it was abolished, but without the hidden forums, and only as a httrack copy. You were hosting but not maintaining Witt X during this time. Recently Danihel Txechescu made this copy available somewhere, but I forgot where.
