An Act against Religious Bias (Amendment)
WHEREAS one of the present titles of the King is “Head of the Unorthodox Church”, and WHEREAS no such Church actually exists, and
WHEREAS, even though the word “unorthodox” (when not capitalized) bears the meaning of “unconventional”, when capitalized it has a particular set of theological meanings, and
WHEREAS the title could well be understood as insulting or derogatory to members of the Orthodox Church, exactly as if the King were titled “Head of the Unmormon Church” or “Head of the Unepiscopalian Church”, and
WHEREAS Talossa should avoid either favouring or denigrating particular religions, THEREFORE the Ziu hereby adopts the following Amendment to the Organic Law, and transmits it to the electorate for ratification. Article III Section 3 of the Organic Law is amended by removal of the phrase “Head of the Unorthodox Church” and the comma following. Uréu q’estadra så: John Woolley, UrN, Senator (Florenciâ)

Or in the alternative you could add something neutral such as " defender of the Faith" etc. But either way I see it as a good move. I have friends in the Orthodox Church among others, and personally appreciate your efforts to head off any misunderstndings before they occur.

I would reword it so that it highlights a contradiction in the Organic Law and would therefore reference Article XIX, Fourth Covenant.
I do like "Defender of Faith" because it has been shown time and again that those who are religious have a better chance of better character. It is my belief that those seeking to know God and have a personal relationship with Him generally have mature character, the foundation of good leadership. However, the words to make that indiscriminate and apply that to the Royal Title escape me at the moment.

Our King already has the title "Defender of the Faith", presumably echoing the title "Defensor Fidei" (in Old Talossan) awarded by the Pope to Henry VIII and borne with varying degrees of absurdity by all the monarchs of England since.

I am disinclined to muck around with the King's historic titles. Is the title insulting? I'm not so sure. It's certainly a feeble joke. Aren't the names of most religions at least partly intended to exclude those who don't subscribe to whatever set of tenets they are proclaiming? The Orthodox exclude those who aren't orthodox.
Anyway, because the title is historic and not offensive (to my ear, at least), I'd want to keep it unless the Royal family wanted it changed.

Brianism has no objection to any title with which the kingdom recognizes the king, or the king chooses to be recognized by, including those which indicate a religious preference. We shall continue with our traditions and beliefs, and encourage others to consider them.

I second Dan's notion. As a humorous reference to a non-existant church the title is a historical part of the monarchy and, as such, should not be removed.

Why mention religion in the first place? Leave it to the people entirely!

I might be stepping somewhere I do not belong... As a baby I was baptized in the Russian Orthodox Church. While this has no bearing or connection to my adult life, my first instinct on reading about the "Unorthodox" church was that it was "Anti Orthodox." This may be poor word association on my part but I firmly believe that if I, an uninterested party, would connote a negative association to this "church" then it is probable and certainly possible that a member of the Greek, Russian Orthodox faith would do the same- or worse. Is it possible that there could be an equally funny (the main point for keeping the name as I understand it...) name for our spiritual body that might not alienate potential citizens or raise idealogical and theological questions?
Again, I am in no way offended by the name but can certainly see how someone might be.
Respectfully,
Joel

I was baptized Catholic, but I don't care for it. I'm much of an Atheist (though I do believe that ghosts/orbs exist), but I have a profound interest in roman paganism.

Well the only thing is we should not decide to become mormans. But all ears to staying in the Catholic faith or Atheist views of those who do.
