Do we want to hash out the crest/supporters questions, or, avoiding further delay, just submit the proposed language of the Patent to the Regent, including the blazon of his Lordship's arms (and motto?), but not including crest and supporters (unless we're ready to do those?). The College can always award them later. Oh yeah, and we need to spell Barôn with the circumflex. Here's a picture of Azure, a stag passant or with a baronial coronet. Then Greg can sign/publish the thing, we can display it on the website, and all's right with the world. — Blanc Wolf

Dear Fellows - I'm working on samples of the appropriate coronets for each of our nobles - trying to make sure the Dukes get a different crown than the Barons. I'm not convinced that taking the English Coronets is entirely appropriate (but I'm reasonable). Stand by for some examples. My thought is that we should have a document detailing standards for achievements. The goal is to have the level of the armitager clearly stand out. A sample standards document is visible here: www.badger.cx/heraldry/achievement/. For Example: My suggestion is that knights only get a helm - in fact, they MUST have a helm to show their readiness to defend the Kingdom. A knight's helm must be visored, and will be shown in black or dark gray. --- Jaune Sabre

On Witt, you can use all (or most of) the HTML character codes. So to get Ô you type Ô. Wait, that didn't work. You type a & and then Ocirc;, but with no space between then. I like the whole achievement thing, but we obviously need to handle it differently from the SCA's way. It seems supporters for Barôns aren't really in order. Dang. So, for Domnul Tepistà ... shield, motto, helm/coronet and crest. With mantling, can't leave out the green and white mantling (but it needn't be blazoned). One exception to the knight/helm rule is that clergymen don't display helms. Hats only for us round-collar types. Big flat round black hats, with varying numbers of tassels. Hooligan, you settled in your mind on a crest yet? How about issuant from a baronial coronet proper a demi-lobster maintaining a dagger gules? — Blanc Wolf

Good point about the circumflex in Baron. I personally think all peers should rate supporters, unless we don't bother with supporters at all - which is an option worth considering. Supporters are comparatively rare in French/Spanish/Italian heraldry. We should be careful not to copy English practice in all respects. It might be nice to acknowledge Talossa's Romance heritage in some ways.

Very pretty! But what about the crest? Did we give up on it?

We're still working on crests for Barons. I had a prime large lobster model flown in from Maine, but before we could sketch him for the crest, Lord Hooligan got hungry and had him for dinner.
Back to the drawing board (so to speak!)

Hm, I guess that means we should be careful with newly appointed lords. If the Baron is that enamerated with seafood, I'll see if I can get him a salmon the next time you need your lobster - or maybe Dungeness Crab.

We're still working on the text of the patent, but the final design of Lord Hooligan's achievement is: (This time the lobster survived!) -- Jaune Sabre
