Well as pointed out by others there weren't really any questions to comment on before it was sent out.

Anyway, I sent out the census to the -allow the chancery only to sent political stuff- list, though I do feel the interpretation, especially of question 7 will be flawed. Maybe we should consider some clearer rules on this, because right now it seems like I can just send government stuff or not depending on whether I feel like it.

I mean, honestly... you received some extremely mild criticism about your survey from other people and still managed to loop me in and escalate until you declared that I was similar to a fan of Stalinism. Dial it back a little.

I'll tell you what, try not to tell easily disprovable lies for political advantage and we'll be cool. Seriously, you do stuff like that and it becomes impossible to take anything you say in good faith, even something as simple as "Talossa is quiet and boring".

I think you're just confused, or maybe I phrased myself badly. I said only that we didn't see the questions before they went out and we didn't know about it before it happened -- ie that we didn't know when it was going out. I was not saying that the survey itself was a surprise. It obviously wasn't because I asked you urgently to do it

Anyway, you'll be pleased to know that 26 people have answered the survey so far, which is a pretty good sample of current citizens so far; though I hope for more.

As a neat little aside re the survey, I never received it. How was it sent?

You never set a privacy setting on the database, so you are automatically counted in the don't send mail (other than elections/census) list, rather than the chancery only political stuff list. I can still send you the survey if you want it.

This is a solid piece of anecdotal evidence for, at the very least, directing the Chancery to ask every new citizen whether they would like to opt in to receiving emails

Well, I think we're talking about two different things here. The current system is set up only to send "election spam" emails. You'll note that the SoS didn't even know whether it was legal to send out the Survey.

So I've posted a bill in the Hopper which would set up a new system where "official business, not spam" emails would go out to all Talossans. Have you got any comments on that?

I send every new citizen a message with among other things a link to the privacy setting. As far as non-anecdotal evidence goes, only 13 citizens do not have a privacy setting.

38 responses so far, and many of them from people who say that they check Witt monthly or less. That was the audience I was hoping to get through to.

I think I'll let it run until after July 26 (I have a big meeting that day) and then probably announce some results.

I would like you to read the whole thing and look at the raw data, but here are the conclusions that I have drawn from the report, to recommend to Cabinet and the Ziu:

1. Continue with our current plans to increase the use of the Talossan language; to create a (monthly at first) news blog; to centralise and revive Talossa’s official social media accounts; and to seek out and build links with other “Talossa-like entities”.
2. Prioritise the promotion and/or organisation of Talossan games, competitions and quizzes.
3. Increase the quality of information about Talossa available to, and accessible to, prospective and/or new citizens; and investigate the possibility of the revival of the Civics Test.
4. Open a new national discussion on how to improve the tone of debate. The real problem is that almost everyone in Talossa blames someone else for rudeness/provocative behaviour/disrespect, and considers what they themselves do to be perfectly harmless. Can there be any “objective standard” for rude, toxic or nasty debate?
5. Leave open the questions of “exit interviews for departing citizens” and “a week/month in review thread” until we can flesh out those ideas more.
