The 42 Project has as one of its Specific Goals the publication by 1 November of 'The Edgewood Quarterly'. As I am actually doing productive things, I will not be publishing that new media thing anytime soon. Hopefully, that will be the only thing in the 42 Project I will have to scuttle at least for now. If all goes well, I will shoot for a publication by New Year's or spring. Just too much going on right now: I am actually keeping with a Talossan project, and I don't want to lose my momentum.
I am slowly getting the Clarkive train going. As time goes on, I will delegate the archiving of our Clark records somewhat, but for now, it's all on me, which is exactly what I want. Once I can get a good turn-key system together I can easily explain to others, many of you will be asked to step up and be a part of this bringing together of Talossan history.
Additionally, I will be for the time being resuming my laborious manual-archiving of this forum. Many valiant attempts have been made to archive everything by quick methods, but the forum with its thirteen-thousand threads is simply too large for that.
Also within this coming month, I will incorporate 51RZ4 into the Royal Archives and Scribery pages, which is something only I can do. And of course, by the 16th of next month, El Lex and the Digest of Laws will be updated once again and hopefully in the attractive presentation to which you have all been accustomed.
As time goes on, I want to involve as many of you in the Scribery of Abbavilla. My plan is to remain Scribe through at least 2021 with an eye of evolving the organization such I will be able to one day walk away with the Scribery continuing on without me like clockwork.
As always, I invite you to peruse the Royal Archives White Paper at docs.google.com/document/d/1P7szJDxaLlRMNY6FMIZjHkufj1tAcA2kZZvV8jqvyzs/edit?usp=sharing
It contains links to all the Scribery pages and Royal Archives documents and is your gateway to everything I am doing. I run all I do off this White Paper, and I could not function without it and all the other documents. I feel like I am slowly, but steadily, hacking away at a giant piece of marble.
The years 2005-2010 saw a momentous event in Talossan history: the exeunt of the last of the Old-Growthers who interacted with Ben Madison in Milwaukee outside of Talossa. The next ten to fifteen years will see the exeunt, perhaps, of many of us who are the first generation of Cybercits and who had direct in-person and virtual contact with Talossa's founder and guru.
I have no doubt Talossa by the year 2040 will still be in existence. There are too many citizens nowadays who have a genuine interest in keeping it going. The leadership of Talossa in 2040 will be the elders of the first generation of Talossans who did not know Ben. These will be the Talossans who will take our community into the future after my generation is gone from Talossa in one way or another.
The Talossan civil service, of which I am a part at least de-facto, exists to provide a day-to-day foundation upon which Talossan society can function well as a people of nation-builders. The civil service when it runs well is invisible, and the story of the building of the modern Kingdom civil service from 2005-2007 is that of tenacity and real miracles: the right people were around at the time to make things happen and to effectively re-boot the civil service from scratch.
Reunision brought back many luminaries of the pre-Split civil service. None greater than Marti-Pair Furxheir whose return to the post of Secretary of State re-united the twin branches of the civil service: ancien et moderne into the culmination of a brilliant story. Glüc as SoS continues in the grand tradition of Ben, JJ, Anglatzarâ, Glaca, Woolley, and so many others. The post of SoS has never in Talossa been derelict, and the proper publication of the Clark has to my knowledge never been interrupted.
I see my role in this story as temporary. My role is to catch up on a lot of archival work that has lain dormant for too long and to help set up Talossa's cultural heritage for the future when Those Who Knew Ben will no longer be around.
Again, I intend to remain Scribe through at least 2021 and the end of the 42 Project, and I will remain Royal Archivist indefinitely, it seems.
The civil service exists not for its own sake, but for the sake of being invisible and steady for the peaceful order of Talossan government and society. We are quiet. We are efficient. We are present.
And you can be a part. The civil service has recently undergone a major reorganization, and two civil service jobs are open, which gives all of us new opportunities to make our mark and do some real good for our community. As I'm busy, already, I am not getting involved with all of that, but that does not mean you shouldn't.
Get involved with the civil service. It's a great way to do Talossa.
