I'm an admirer of the Alexander Technique - on the recommendation of its use by Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft courses - and I've had a few lessons myself, though I haven't so much applied it to my own musical or sports performance.

For the consideration of the Royal Society: Please find here a link to some recent writing I have done on somatics and performing arts students. I'm an admirer of the Alexander Technique - on the recommendation of its use by Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft courses - and I've had a few lessons myself, though I haven't so much applied it to my own musical or sports performance. I had a colleague in my teacher-training cohort who was also working on Fripp's Guitar Craft. I've found AT to be useful in almost any performance activity, particularly in helping me climb over the frightful heap of performance anxiety and stage fright that has grown up when I have attempted to act.
But further, I find it to be a sound pedagogical tool for both performance and stress management. My findings in this paper are purely anecdotal and theoretical, rooted in analogous reasoning. I'm currently working on proposals for an empirical trial, as well as exploring the concepts surrounding culture shock and how Alexander Technique may be utilized to help students (particularly students with limited/no experience for foreign cultures) involved in study abroad experiences.
