WHEREAS since June 2004, talossa dot proboards dott com has been the central meeting place for the Kingdom of Talossa,
WHEREAS Talossa has a grand tradition of being truly abysmal where archiving and preserving its Wittenberg reccord is concerned,
WHEREAS the Royal Archivist has posted a job listing for someone to assist him in archiving our present-day Wittenberg,
WHEREAS that thread (http://talossa.proboards.com/board/12/wittenberg) has been viewed many, many times, but no-one has stepped up to the plate,
WHEREAS the Royal Archivist is truly dismayed,
WHEREAS this sort of resolution is passive-agressive, unorthodox, and the Royal Archivist is sorry - not sorry for getting the Senator from Fiôvâ to put this in the Hopper on his behalf,
WHEREAS when ProBoards decides to shut down, we will be at its mercy,
WHEREAS the Royal Archivist hopes hoppering this resolution helps to give a nudge in the right direction to the PEOPLE.
and WHEREAS the Royal Archivist has neither the time or the expertise to do the job of archiving Wittenberg properly,
ERGO, the Ziu RESOLVES this matter to be of the utmost priority and calls upon the PEOPLE of Talossa to answer the Royal Archivist's call to action.

That which does not change has died. The Witt keeps changing, as it is a record of our living communication. If, however, we preserve its past - frozen in amber, so that it cannot change - then we are honouring the past... and there is, perhaps, a risk that we will honour only the past. Let the Witt live!
I would make a contrary suggestion: that we archive such bits of the Witt as take our fancy, without any careful consideration - but ensure that what is really important (such as the Laws and the Royal statements and the Cort decisions) are recorded elsewhere - in a means that is easy to preserve (e.g. pdf documents).
Just a suggestion.

Wittenberg gives future Talossans a snapshot into what Talossan life was like. Even the most-obscure posts are important.

Wittenberg gives future Talossans a snapshot into what Talossan life was like. Even the most-obscure posts are important. True. I wonder whether IDKK would approve of burning all newspaper archives apart from the parts we think are interesting right now. Ignorance of Talossan history is one of the big problems in our modern Nation. Those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat a rumour they heard, not knowing that Mad King Robert made it up to discredit a political enemy. Speaking of KR1, of course Ár Pats and the Big Thick History are full of lies and smears, but they at least tell the basic story with reference to the original documents. I can't believe anyone would recommend NOT remembering our history or even committing historical vandalism.

True. I wonder whether IDKK would approve of burning all newspaper archives apart from the parts we think are interesting right now. I'm pretty sure that IDKK would not approve of any such thing. But Ián Tamorán, when he is in a tongue-in-cheek mode ...
To be serious, though: the archivists are always laughed at or ignored at the time they are recording the archives, and valued only later. It is quite hard to get people to realise how important it is to keep the record of history. "History is written by the victors" is, alas, all too true.
