¡Azul, cüncitaxhiêns d'ár naziunetă amadă!
It is with a heavy heart that I emerge from two months of only intermittent activity to announce my decision to withdraw from Talossan politics, and thus to resign the leadership of the Free Democrats.
Simply put, for most of the time since Reunision, Talossan politics have taken up all my Talossan time. This has been due to the duty I have felt to promote the ideals of the Talossan Republic (2004-12) in the reunited Kingdom.
We have had many successes in that time. Only the most recent have been the Free Democrats, a monarchy-critical party, becoming the largest party in the Cosă; and the Cort case which finally disabused the King of his belief that he had an unlimited veto over OrgLaw changes.
But - as previously stated - the knock-down drag out legal fight against not only the King, but many conservative political figures, took a hell of a lot out of me, emotionally. I had nights of panic-driven insomnia during the Cort case, in particular. For me, winning the Cort case was good for Talossa - but it took something out of me that's never been replaced. My sense of Talossa as something fun.
In late April 2016, I had a computer malfunction which meant I could no longer check Wittenberg. When my computer was repaired, I found out - to my surprise and disappointment - that I no longer had any wish to do so.
I told myself to hold tight and to spring back into action when the Royal Commission on the OrgLaw resumed its work... in other words, when the RUMP and Royal appointees decided to finish submitting their proposals. This is something that never happened. This means that our only chance to reform the OrgLaw in a non-partisan way has gone out the window.
Perhaps I should have seen the writing on the wall when the King appointed the most conservative and inactive people he could find as his representatives to the RCOR. The King is extremely clever and cunning, and clearly willing to do anything he can to keep Talossa just the way he and his older, conservative, white male friends like it.
With great shame and humility, I must admit frankly that I have conceived a personally strong dislike for the King of Talossa - given what I see as his continuing anti-democratic and passive-aggressive antics, and his unwillingness to change his ways upon defeat. Passive-aggression is something that infuriates me. This attitude of mine extends also to certain figures in the conservative and monarchist parties whose names I will not mention but you can probably guess.
On the subject, the Cort case still amazes me. Why did RUMP figures who were personally very put out by the King's declaration of an absolute veto decide to defend him in Cort - even to the point of slandering myself and Justice dal Nordselvă as improperly colluding? The only answer I can come up with is - their priority was to defeat me at all costs. I can no longer deal with that attitude - and, more importantly, I have been disgusted to see it arise within myself.
Being motivated in politics for freedom and democracy in Talossa is a noble thing. Being motivated by the urge to spite THOSE B******S OVER THERE is not. And I must admit that my motivation has been increasingly the latter rather than the former. To my shame.
There is a story told by Shi'a Muslims that the Imam 'Ali was in a sword fight to the death. He was about to kill his opponent when the opponent spat in his face. 'Ali then withdrew from the fight, then because to spill blood in anger - rather than for justice - would have been a sin. (Apparently he killed the guy only after he'd calmed down.)
I therefore withdraw from the fight, for the foreseeable future. Not necessarily forever - I retain my citizenship and my membership in the Free Democrats (and the ZRT), and I want my first child, due in September, to be a Dandelion. But I call upon the Free Democrats of Talossa to replace me as party leader henceforth, and do their damndest to lead the government in the 50th Cosâ. They can count on my vote - and my vote in the Cosâ for as long as the incoming leader wishes me to hold those seats. I also resign as Túischac'h and as Secretary of State of Fiôvă.
I just realised that it is today precisely 12 years to the day since I joined the Talossan Republic. Wow.
