Welcome one and all to The Royal Society for Advancement of Knowledge! 

As the first President of the Royal Society, it is my pleasure to begin by laying out some of the ideas and goals I have for our future.

First, membership will be opened up on a twice yearly basis (dates to be determined) for those interested in joining the Royal Society. There are three levels of membership: Associate Member, Fellow of the Royal Society, and Senior Fellow of the Royal Society. Anyone who applies and meets some minimal requirements will automatically be granted associate membership.

Second, the Royal Society will hold a twice yearly Royal Society Symposium where we will hear from distinguished members of our Society on a wide variety of topics.

Third, the Royal Society will hold regular lectures, open to the public.

Requirements for Associate Membership:

1. Be a citizen of Talossa.
2. Write an essay of not less than three paragraphs but not more than ten paragraphs outlining an active, scholarly interest you have and how you can advance that scholarly interest as an associate member of the Royal Society.

Requirements for Fellow of the Royal Society:

1. A Royal Fellow will have met all of the requirements for associate membership.
2. A Royal Fellow will possess at a minimum the equivalency of a High School Diploma
3. A Royal Fellow must declare upon application a scholarly interest and to maintain membership at this level will present at least one lecture annually on that topic.

Requirements for Senior Fellow of the Royal Society:

1. A Senior Fellow will have met all of the requirements for Fellow of the Royal Society.
2. A Senior Fellow will possess at a minimum the equivalency of a two-year Degree from a college, university, or technical school.
3. A Senior Fellow will present at minimum one lecture per year and participate in the annual Royal Society Symposium either as a lecturer or presenter.

The President of the Royal Society upon nomination and appointment is automatically granted the membership level of Senior Fellow. The Patron of the Royal Society, King John (or his appointed agent), also is automatically granted the membership level of Senior Fellow. 

All Senior Fellows of the Royal Society are members of the Royal Society Advisory Council and will meet as necessary. The role of the Council will be adopted when the Royal Society first HAS a council and has bylaws to adopt.

(side note: can the powers that be change the name of this forum, and can someone translate into Talossan the name of the Royal Society?)

I am sure I speak for all when I say that we are excited to see what masterminds, and advancement this Society will bring Talossa and the world! However, I now speak mostly for myself when I say that I would be delighted to find out when the next membership opportunity opens, so that I may join!

As for the translation, the Royal Society for Advancement of Knowledge would be translated thus:

El Verbånd Rexhital për l'Avançamaintsch del Säp

You could also use Società for “Society”, but then, the Ladîntsch Naziunal and I would be at odds about the mutations, me wanting to write La tSocietà Rhexhital për l'Avançamaintsch del Säp, and him disagreeing all over my parade.

Again, my heartiest congratulations on the Formation of this Society. A side note, Mr President, do not forget to change your signature!

Congratulations! I too would like to know when the membership opens (though alas, as of current, I could only be an associate member). I am excited to see what this new organization will bring about!

The initial membership window in the Royal Society will open for applications November 15, 2015 and will remain open until January 31, 2016. From that point on, membership will be open from June 1 - July 31 and November 1 - December 31 of each successive year. Should applications for membership be made to a specific Associate or Fellowship level? Or does the candidate make application to the Society and the society deem what level of fellowship to grant?

I'd suggest applying to the level you believe you are qualified for. I'm guessing based on your profession that you already qualify for the Senior Fellow.

El Verband Rexhital për l'Avançamaintsch del Säp is certainly acceptable (no å in standard Talossa because å was abolished by the 2007 Arestada). I'd personally lean a little toward using la Società instead of el Verband because società has been used more and I generally prefer using Romance words over Germanic words in Talossan.

For "knowledge," other alternatives aside from säp are adanaziun and antaloir. Säp is the oldest word, dating to 1985, and is derived from the verb säparh, to know. Antaloir dates to 1993, comes from Rhaeto-Romance and is also glossed as meaning "understanding". Adanaziun dates from 1997 and is coded as coming from North African Latin.

Oh yes.  I just wasn't sure whether the intention was to have senior fellows admitted from among fellows (and fellows from associates, for that matter) upon crossing the standards and making application, or if application needed to be made to the Associate level first and then you progressed as far as your qualifications would allow.  Or if, in order to build a body politic in the first place, things were being done differently.

The question was asked of me about an application. I am looking more of a resume style application that includes all relevant information that will help the Royal Society to place applicants in the appropriate membership level.
