I just thought I'd throw this into the leadership race, so it would mean something. GV and Mortiz are good to put their name up, but we need to make sure that whoever becomes the new leader, they have a clear way forward.
I take this time to mention that I have been in discussions with my old friend, Carlüs Xheraltescù, on the subject of how what I call the "centre-left" of Talossan politics - those parties who think we need more democracy in our system - can work together. To this aim, I announce the following:
If I am re-elected ZRT leader, I will formally begin a process of discussion with the Liberal Congress on closer working together. This may lead to standing a joint list in the next Cosâ election, or even unification of the two parties.
Yes, the big problem here would be that such a process would lead to not having a specifically Republican party on the ballot paper (seeing as the LibCon has monarchist members and an officially neutral standpoint on the central constitutional issue). But the question remains: how many active Republican supporters are there? To actually push forward towards a New Talossan Republic, we need an active leadership team devoted to it.
I was actually stung to the quick by something Sir Alexandreu Davinescù said in one of his passive-aggressive tirades; or maybe it was in one of those Mildew cartoons, the two are difficult to distinguish; about the ZRT being a "pocket vote" party like the RUMP. And it does seem that those who are happy to cast a vote every seven or eight months for the New Republic are not capable of or interested in actually working to it happen. This is a problem.
So, I'm not personally prepared to try to make it happen any more. The leadership election is a clear choice. Vote for me for a realignment in Talossan politics, where liberals and Republicans unite to become the second-largest force in the land and thus have a chance to take real power, together; or vote for Maurice, GV or someone else. I'm not sure what they stand for right now. Rest assured that whoever wins I will remain a loyal ZRT member and stand for the role of Secretary.
Thank you.
