Friends,
I'll forgive Txosue the use of the pun I have so frequently used. Imitation is apparently the sincerest for of flattery, though you'll have to excuse me if I don't presently feel that. I prefer to allow my record as your President, and indeed the record of my opponent to speak for itself, so I'll take this time to address some of the misinformation which my opponent is propagating.
Much like Txosue, I consider the value of liberty to be of the upmost importance to Talossa. Not just the liberty of individuals though, but the positive liberty of provinces to determine their own laws, course of action, and to rationally pursue their own conceptions of the good. Liberalism requires a commitment not just to the former, but to the latter as well. My opponent ought to be reminded of that, I feel.
On Txosue's second point: I feel as though he misunderstands how the party works. It is not constitutionally allowable that he may block the merger of ANY parties. If discussions between any party reach the point at which we must decide whether or not to proceed, the decision will be taken by the entire party - not by the President, whether that's Txosue or anyone else. I note also that when I informed my party of the possibility (one which I provide an unbiased account thereof), he seemed fairly supportive of talks between parties. Regardless, he must surely know that supporting our constitutional amendments is a step towards securing our core values such that it would require a tremendous effort on the part of any new members to corrupt our core principles. IF any merger ever happens, and that's a big IF, we will not compromise our commitment to constitutional agnosticism. We will not compromise our commitment to Talossan liberalism, and we will not compromise on our commitment to put Liberty First.
My opponent appears to have started running before we've even decided there's going to be a race: NO FORMAL MERGER PROPOSITION HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THE PARTY. IF, and only IF such a proposition reaches us, then we will consider it on its merits. Like I said, that decision won't be taken by me or Txosue, it'll be taken by you.
