Office of the Minister of STUFF _______________________________
MINISTRY OF STUFF: October XXXV Report Azul, With TalossaWiki now fully staffed, updated, and operating properly, the next priority of the Ministry will be the long-awaited transition of the content at KingdomOfTalossa.net to a new, more readily modifiable portal. In Phase I, new content management system software will be deployed and a visual theme will be installed and customized. In Phase II, the current content of KingdomOfTalossa.net will be exported to the new system. in Phase III, a team of editors will be chosen and deployed to update the old content to reflect our current reality. Editors will also be assigned to create new content that should also exist. Anyone interested in assisting the Ministry with Phase III should write to the Ministry at stuff{at}talossa.com to express their interest and describe their qualifications. Updates on these activities will be posted to this thread as milestones are achieved. Your servant, Sevastáin Pinátsch

Question regarding Phase I: what kind of visual theme are we thinking? Is it a slick Web 2.0 affair, or more akin to the quirky style of the current site? I don't mind either way -- just curious!

I would like to remain the Minister of Stuff to get in touch with me to discuss the work I already did in the past.
I have sent my skype coordinates.

Sure. Thanks. These will continue to be monthlies until the major work is competed. If we get to a maintenance phase, I'll stop boring people.

Somewhere in between. I'm not a designer and we can replace the rollout theme at any time, but to start it will have a simple, red top with the arms and bilingual identification. The menus will have multi-level dropdowns to scroll to content. There'll also be a search box in the header.

Well, the good news is that since I am the boss at my company, you can call me during the day. You can also call in the evening before 20h30, and you can call on the week-ends... So, I am ridiculously available...

UPDATE 1:
tl;dr version: Phase I is complete. WordPress 4 is installed with necessary plugins and a suitable starter theme.
Long(er) version: A number of content management systems were considered, with Drupal, Typo3, Joomla and WordPress emerging as the realistic contenders.
Drupal, the Minister's favourite CMS by far, was judged to be too complex for laypeople to learn, customize and maintain. The same was found for Typo3. The Ministry will not invest in the implementation of technologies that are not easily maintainable for future Ministers, Deputies and Staff without specialized knowledge.
Joomla, while simpler, has questionable security particularly when extensions are installed. Additionally, it is too commercially focused and lacks a good, free mechanism for the import and export of content.
WordPress was determined to have the right balance of feature-completeness out of the box, maintainability, security (with plugins), cost to customize, ease of migration and backup, and simplicity to use and administer.
The Talossa.com site, while live, will continue to display a maintenance page until the content is transferred from KingdomOfTalossa.net.
Phase II is now in progress.

TalossaWiki:
The Ministry has applied additional fixes to the wiki to correct the fonts. Readability seems much improved, and is especially noticeable in diff changes of document history tabs.
Your patience is greatly appreciated. I am working in earnest, and hope to accomplish as much of our Ministry's published plan as time will allow.
Your servant,
~ SP

UPDATE 3:
I, your loyal servant, have been working hard in my spare time to transfer and format KoT content to the new CMS. Since my last update I have completed 45 pages and 654 media files. If that doesn't sound like much, have a gander at the complexity of the College of Arms pages. It's a website in itself. This is seriously hard work, but I'm only too happy to do it because I love Talossa, and you deserve the best access to information I can provide.
That said, I am disheartened to see that the opposition party is already voting No on the Vote of Confidence. In one case, a prominent individual has changed from the Yes vote left 2 weeks ago.
MCs: It's your prerogative, of course. If you want to punish the government because you don't agree with a recent policy, that's your right. But toppling one person or one policy will topple us all.
For the record though, I'd really like the chance to complete my platform for the term. You've got your wiki. You will get your new Talossa.com. You'll get to the end of my term pledge list or as near as I can get with all the time I can spare.
Please give me the chance to finish what I've started.
~SP
