Photographs of Talossa
« Thread Started on Jan 15, 2007, 2:33pm »

Maybe someone who's familiar with the Talossan homeland can help identify some of these images for the GTZT? (We're hoping to put a bunch of nice pictures of Talossa on the website.) Meanwhile, just enjoy the photos of our homeland.

Am I right that this picture is looking south along the river, so that Talossa is on the left? What bridge is that?

Another similar shot:

This one is clearly looking the other direction — north, up-river? What is that very distinctive building that's in all three pictures?

OK, what are we seeing here?

Here we're looking east across the river at Talossa, no? What are the buildings?

The Art Museum, at the south end of Veteran's Park in Talossa, right?

The sign says "Milwaukee River Walk". Where is this exactly?

The lakeshore of southern Talossa around sunset, I think?

Cool street-sign. This one I *know* is in Talossa.

Here's a *great* picture of a big part of Talossa. If I've got my bearings, that's North Avenue cutting across the middle of the picture, right? So Hooligan's Super Bar is just about dead center?

St Mary's hospital. You can see this at the right-hand side of the large picture just above.

Wow!!! Beautiful finds, John!

The art museum is, in fact, the Milwaukee Art Museum http://www.mam.org/thebuilding/index.htm, commonly known as the Calatrava, after the building's architect.

Photo 1: Yes, I think Talossa is on the left. The bridge looks like it might be the one right before the Wisconsin Ave. bridge, which would make it the Wells St. bridge.

Photo 3: The distinctive (and--in my opinion--ugly and very bad attempt at some sort of neo-classical post-modern architecture) is the 100 E. Wisconsin building, which is unfortunately on Talossa soil. On a more positive note, please note the heart-shaped street lamps. These are distinctive in a good way.

Photo 5: The green-topped building right in the middle is city hall, which is a fantastic building that's getting a very complete and sensitive cleaning and remodeling. The other, tallish buildings in the picture are abominations.

Photo 6: Yes, this is the famous Calatrava art museum with the brise soleil. It's located near the South end of Veterans Park...and not far from the Summer Fest grounds.

Photo 10: Yes, you should be able to see Hooligan's Super Bar in this photo as well as Riverside High School (the organey-looking building in the upper right near the river), where Ben and I and Duke Ian and Art Verbotten of the Republic (among other early Talossans) all went to school. And while I can't pick it out, the house with the bedroom where Talossa began is in this photo. What's not in this photo is the building that housed the Pyschology department where Ben's dad had an office, and where so much of Talossan history happened.

I am slowly getting my Talossa pics from 2002 scanned. http://jeffrags.com/misc-stuff/talossa/p....-east-side/102/ contains some photos that might be of interest.

If I ever make it within the borders, I'll rent a helicopter, or even a Cessna or something and fly around. Somebody should come with me, and we can take many pictures as we trace the borders, overfly landmark buildings, etc.

Maybe we can even make a movie for the website!!!

I've used the Reyer photos quite a bit in Oraclâ magazine. The panorama is stunning.
